The National Maize Research Program (NMRP) was evolved as a part of the Rapti valley Development Project (RVDP) in the year 1956(2013 B.S.) to rehabilitate the flood victims of 1954 and to test, develop and recommend a package of farming system technologies to newly settled farmers. Maize research was started only after the beginning of maize program at Agri-Bofany Division, Khumaltar. National Maize Development Program(NMDP) was established in 1972 at Rampur, Chitwan to generate improved maize production technologies. After the establishment of Nepal Agricultural Research Council (NARC), the NMDP was renamed as National Maize Research Program (NMRP) in 1991 with the mandate of maize research and development in the country.
We seek to generate high yielding maize based production technological packages that contribute to the food, nutritional security, employment generation and livelihood improvement of the Nepalese people.
